UTICA — Utica Maennerchor celebrated German-American Day Wednesday with a flag raising ceremony at City Hall.
Director David Kolb sang the American and German national anthems with a group of chorus members and Werner Franz raised the German flag.
October 6th commemorates the arrival of the first group of thirteen German families that came to America in 1683 from Krefeld, located near the Rhine River.
They settled in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and established Germantown, Pennsylvania.
Utica Maennerchor was established in 1865 and is the home of the summer Bavarian Festival, a chorus of 50 plus members, year round dinners, dances, and ethnic events.
